Let's walk through the cultural heritage of the town!!

The town was founded in the Teresian era, which left traces of late Baroque at squares and town streets… The central place in the old town from the 18th century is occupied by the church of St. Theresa of Avila. This baroque building with exceptional acoustics is a monument of faith, culture, and a real historical reminder. Heading south, the church lines with the building of the former Main Guard, which has beautiful arcades. Behind the Main Guard there was a prison, and today there is the Summer Stage – an urban place for socializing and entertaining young people and organizing various events.

A pleasant walk takes us to the Town Museum, which houses numerous works of art, valuable cultural, historical, ethnological, and archaeological heritage. Our walk continues to the parish church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the beginning of the 19th century. The church accommodates several art pieces by famous Croatian painter Celestin Medović, and the square in front of the church is adorned with the work of sculptor Antun Jurkić – a monument to Pope John Paul II.

At the end of the walk through the old town, you will be ‘greeted’ by the Nova Gradiška gymnasium, located in a building that really beautifies the view of the town – a real cherry on the top.

As you are sitting on the bench, enjoying the sound of the treetops, your eyes are going to be attracted by the “Three Graces” – the fountain made by Vinko Fabris in 1978.

In the central part are King Tomislav Square and a park modeled on French parks, which was decorated in the landscape style of an English park at the beginning of the 20th century.

Buildings from the secession period are another pride of the town! In Gajeva Street, there is a secession corner-house from 1880. called Paun – eng. Peacock. In 1913 this building was bought by the merchant Veco Paunović who placed a beautiful life-size tin peacock on the roof of the building.

The administrative building of Croatian Forests from 1913 is a special classicistsecession beauty, renovated in 2015.

Nova Gradiška is special for its colorful attractions, and one of them is truly unique “Promenade of Town curiosities”. This promenade, located in an idyllic setting along Šumetlica stream and Ivo Petranović Sports Park, tells the walker a story of the town, in a fun and interesting way, presenting historical facts and beauty of Nova Gradiška.
